Working on a fishing boat on the east coast?

I want to get some summer work as a deckhand between semesters, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience, or could tell me how I can find an employer. Everything online is about Alaska, I was thinking somewhere in Maine, even Louisiana, or a city like Boston. Are these jobs competitive/hard to land? I'm willing to work long hard hours

Being willing to work long hard hours - is really a starting point.

Contact the companies, or the boat skippers direct, sometimes you can fluke it and get picked up off the dock.

It is very hard work, but the lifestyle is pretty amazing too - for those suited to it.

Standard advice applies, keep eyes and ears open, mouth shut and be humble, as you really do not know anything to start with. Everyone starts as a greenhorn some time - I started at 10 days old - others leave it for a few years. :)

I got to be experienced with time, but the crusty and old bit sort of snuck up while I was busy.
