is there any sort of milder commercial fishing?

i love fishing and physical work. is there any sort of fishing jobs that arent up to 2 weeks on a boat, and a girl could work in? also how would this be as a first job? are there any requirements? i just cannot stand the thought of working in a starbucks or an office. and plus just working really hard outdoors after i move out for 6 months or so seems like it would be fun!
i know a guy who did this. he is up in alaska and works in a cannery, but he lives in a tent and is a guy.

Look, here`s what you should do.

Go to one of your local marinas and look for a walk-on boat that you`d like to work on or even a private boat and ask a captain or a deckhand hanging around or cleaning fish if they`d like some help with a deckhand.

If they say no, then don`t give up, keep trying. It took me a while to find a good captain that pays me well. (lol my dad pays well but he`s aggravating.)

But, once you finally find one, here are a few tips once you start.

1) you gotta know what you`re doing so don`t bluff to where the captain thinks you`re really good then you aren`t that great on the first day and he fires you. (not trying to sound frank or say that you bluff but trust me, i know.)

2)be expecting to get dirty. (fish guts, fish blood, saltwater, bait ick, whatever)

3)expect to see somebody throw up (lol you get used to it, don`t worry.)

4)buy a de-hooker http://www.snappersaver.com/

5)buy rain gear (calcutta makes really good ones(my pick), they are a bit expensive but of course, other ones work well also. http://www.calcuttafishing.com/

6)and most of all, have fun doing it because if you like it, this will be one of the few jobs you will come to enjoy.

Now I know everything I`ve said so far sounds negative BUT....

If you do get a job down in Florida or Alabama or North or South Carolina or whatever, deckhanding, you will get to see some of the most beautiful things and scary things out at sea that just make you happy to be alive and that God made such a beautiful place.

-good luck and have fun. hope this helped

contact me if you need more info about deckhanding if you still want to.
