Looking for boat job next summer?
I am moving down to South Carolina this year for college from Ky. Next summer I plan on heading towards the coast for a summer job. I would like to maybe be a deckhand on a fishing boat. I will pretty much settle for anything around boats. Any advice on how I might get a job on a fishing charter? I dont have any experience with saltwater fishing (though I do fish for bass in freshwater a fair amount) but I am trying to get as good of a head start on this as possible. Thanks.
I've been a Charter Capt. pretty much everywhere, I recommend that you start learning every kind of Knots for the fish you are trying to catch. You'll need to learn Bimini twist for offshore trolling to either a ball bearing swivel, or to a wind on leader, what ever you or Capt. prefers. You'll need to rig up for Bottom fishing, what kind of hooks Circle is pretty hard to beat for bottom or live baiting. And most of all be prepared b4 all trips, for all kinds of fish, and be very organized, tackle is not cheap. And take pride in keeping your boat looking "great" you and the boat are the 1st thing people see when walking the dock. Good luck it is an awesome profession!
