Sea fishing for the first time: what do I need to know?
Hello. My Dad did a lot of sea fishing as a boy, but has been fifty years on dry land since. Now his 70th is coming up and I'd like to take him on a day's fishing as his present.
I am thinking somewhere near to home, say Poole or Weymouth (England), but I've never even held a rod before. I need to organise it as a surprise so can't ask my more experienced Dad; what should I look for in terms of the boat and crew I hire, the equipment they have, facilities, price etc?
Any help welcome!
PS, one thing I have always wondered: when you go sea fishing, do you do it like Robert Shaw in Jaws when he was strapped in to a seat at the stern with a rod fixed to the deck at his feet? I'm really looking forward to this! Thanks!
try calling the landings and ask for a charter service, am in Southern California and we have many sportfishing charter services here,,, tell them what you are looking for, many of them should be very helpful to you,
don't know about England, but here in Southern Cal, there are a few different type of charters, we have what we call cattle boats, where the will put 20 to 30 anglers on board, then there are what are called six pack charters, where they only take 6 anglers fishing for a less crowded and more helpful fishing trip,,, i imagine you cold also find a more private charter, but you need to call the landings and ask for specific charters that would interest you....
