Recommendations on a 14 to 16 foot Jet Boat?
I am considering a 14 to 16 foot Jet Boat like Sea Rays Jet Rayder, Sea Doo, Yamaha, Sugar Sands, Bayliner Jazz and etc. I live on the Gulf Coast but I am looking for ones for sale on Craigs List inland so I can find a freshwater boat built in the 1990's. I have seen a few that look good priced from anywhere between $1000 and $3500.
I have never owned a jet or been on one.
I would appreciate any pros and cons on any brands that you guys have had experiences with.
Jet boats operate exactly like your typical sea doos, waverunners, etc... They lack "traction" from the start but are very efficient at moving you through the water. They tend to hop and cavitate quite a bit, but if you're looking for a little water scooter that you can fit a few people in... go for it. If you're going to run it in the salt water, make sure you're protected properly against corrosion. BTW... if you find a good boat with engine problems and everything else is in working order and the price is good... it's not too expensive to get a remanufactured engine. I bought an 800cc yamaha motor from SBT and had it installed for just under $1000. Good luck, they are great fun for a small boat.
