Is she waiting for a "bigger fish?"?
I've dated this girl for 3 weeks. We met online (Match). On first meeting, I felt she wasn't into me and thought "oh well." SHE contacted me and we later went on a 2nd date, dinner. We stayed at the restaurant til closing and then walked around the city and talked until 2am, when we shared one kiss and went home. Since then, we've spent time together about every other day and have even "stayed over" at each other's place a couple times (no sex, just "rounding 3rd"). I was starting to feel like I could date this girl exclusively. Well, we've talked and she's said she's not ready for that. She's said, to quote "I KNOW you're a good catch.... I like spending time with you. I want that to continue." Also "you're the only guy I have dated" ("have dated"/operative?). She's still on Match. I'm thinking she's caught a pretty nice fish, but game warden's only going to let her keep one. Is she keeping me on the boat for now and waiting to see if she can catch a bigger fish?
This answer is a variation of Frank Sinatra's somewhat cynical statement, "Treat a lady like a tramp and a tramp like a lady." It's one of those things where you have to do the opposite to hook the fish.
Like George Constanza and his infamous dissertation on who's got "hand" (short for the "upper hand") in the relationship, you blinked too soon. Now she's got the "upper hand" in the relationship because you've shown you're more into her than she is into you.
Now, you just have to play it cool. Don't bring up the committment issue again. Be patient, have fun, and act like you don't have a care in the world (or like the guy in Fast Times at Ridgemont High said to Mark Ratner, you got to have "the attitude"). Good luck.
